BOISE – WinCo Foods, LLC has announced that it will construct a smaller format store, Waremart by WinCo, in Keizer, OR, in 2017.

"WinCo Foods has long been looking to open in the Keizer area,” said a WinCo Foods spokesperson. “We’ve heard the voices of Keizer residents and are happy to bring a unique store to the Keizer market. Our employee-owners look forward to serving our customers in this new location. We also want to thank the people of Keizer, who have been so patient as we work through to complete the project.”

The new Waremart by WinCo will be located at 5450 River Rd N. WinCo closed on the purchase on Friday, Oct. 14, 2016.

While smaller than a typical WinCo, the 40,000 sq. ft. store is designed specifically for markets like Keizer. The layout will include WinCo Foods’ trademark “Wall of Values” at the entrance and will offer a wide assortment of grocery items along with full produce, meat, and bulk foods departments.

“Our bulk foods department has more than 700 items that can be purchased in whatever quantity the customer desires,” said WinCo’s spokesperson. “Bulk foods selections include an abundance of rice varieties, dried beans, pastas, baking ingredients, cereals, snacks, candies and pet foods. Customers love the fact that they can buy as little or as much as they like – from two teaspoons of a specific seasoning or spice to a 50-lb. sack of flour.”

The Waremart by WinCo store will also carry a variety of organic, gluten-free and natural foods items.

WinCo is an employee-owned discount grocery chain known primarily for being the “Supermarket Low Price Leader.” Founded as Waremart in Boise, Idaho in 1967, WinCo Foods changed its name in 1999 to reflect the employee ownership aspect of the company, but retained the rights to the Waremart name.

“We’re bringing the Waremart name back for this special store,” added the company spokesperson. “WinCo just recently closed on the purchase of the property and will commence construction just as soon as they have permits in hand to remodel the store.”

When complete, the new store will employ approximately 75-80 individuals, and will be open daily from approximately 6 am to 11 pm.
