Produce Blog 8-5-12

I don’t know about you, but I am loving this hot weather. Going on road trips with the windows down & smelling the sweet Summer time air…Oh, please forgive me! I must have been daydreaming while I watch our trucks drive up to the dock. I will get back on track & tell you about the hot values this week in the WinCo Produce Department! I am so excited to tell you that Westside Cantaloupes are at their peak and peaches, nectarines, and plums are plump and full of flavor. I also watched the Red seedless grapes arrive & they are looking very nice; we just starting to carry the Sweet Celebration variety and they taste wonderful! But I also love the green seedless grapes, which are of the Thompson and Princess varieties, and I am proud to say that Sun World Superiors are some of the best grapes I’ve seen this year.

Speaking of green! You will be seeing it all week long in our produce department. I will keep your savings going while putting green tag prices on peppers, zucchini, green beans, cucumbers and eggplant. These are all coming in farm fresh and will surely make the rest of your plate jealous.

Don’t worry friends, I’m still on track & I’m not slowing down there! But you should be ready to yield when you arrive at our bright yellow corn sweet corn, locally grown in each region we call home. The quality of this corn is exceptional – I would even say ‘Fantastic’ after I fired up the grill & tried this recipe from our friends at Kraft.

And before I go, make sure you give our sweet Northwest cherries a ride in your cart today – they will be gone in the next few weeks. As always, thank you for reading today’s adventure; I will look forward to seeing you in the Produce lane!
